Program Branding
When we talk about Branding your Program, we mean building a recognizable presence. This means some kind of program nickname, consistent colors and a logo and possibly a tagline. These are the items that will be used to build marketing materials for your program to help get your program recognized within your school and community. Ultimately this will help your program to grow as students and parents learn about the types of activities done in your program. As we think about branding, many find it useful to start with a logo which can also be the easiest element to design. If your school has an Art or Graphics department, you might consider asking them to help with the design and final digital rendering of the logo. You may also consider building two or three different logos that are all in the same vein of design to give you some variety when creating imagery or merchandise for your program. Next, we can move on to the tagline, this is a short saying or slogan for your program. I try to keep this consistent on everything made for the program, it can help bring continuity of the program together. As you build your logo you will want to consider colors, I suggest a primary and secondary color. Some designs may require a third color, but I wouldn’t do more than three. These colors can be related to your school’s colors and mascot design as well to help build you closer to your school’s brand as well. When choosing the colors, I like to have color swatch for a visual representation along
with the RGB and Hex values for the colors as these will be needed by shops to recreate the colors you have chosen accurately on the items being created. Finally, storing all these digital assets in a location they can be found easily is important, so I put them on a network drive with links to the file’s location. Gathering this information together should give you the materials and information to start building a brand for your program and getting things out into the world in a consistent manner.
